NWS Issues Flood Watch for South Central Arizona Through Monday Noon

August 31, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 2 min read

The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a Flood Watch for portions of south central Arizona, effective until 12:00 PM MST on Monday, August 31. Additional heavy rainfall from thunderstorms could lead to rapid runoff and localized flooding.

The Flood Watch was put into effect at 12:13 AM MST on August 31 and covers numerous communities across south central Arizona. Affected locations include Central Phoenix, North Phoenix, Glendale, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Deer Valley, Cave Creek, Apache Junction, Fountain Hills, Superior, and surrounding mountain and basin areas.

According to the National Weather Service, environmental conditions will remain favorable for showers and thunderstorms through Monday morning. Repeated storms moving over the same areas, known as storm training, could generate an additional 1 to 2 inches of rainfall.

The potential for excessive runoff could result in rapid flooding of low-water crossings, low-lying areas, rivers, creeks, and streams throughout the region.

Weather officials advise residents across the affected locations to remain informed, as additional warnings could be issued if flood conditions materialize.
