A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for San Diego County coastal areas, including Oceanside, Carlsbad, Chula Vista, and San Diego. The National Weather Service advises residents to prepare for potential hazardous winds and coastal flooding.
The National Weather Service in San Diego, California, issued the Tropical Storm Watch on October 10 at 8:05 PM PDT. Affected locations include Oceanside, Carlsbad, Chula Vista, and San Diego.
While the latest local forecast indicates winds below tropical storm force with a peak wind forecast of 10 to 20 mph and gusts to 30 mph, there is potential for winds ranging from 39 to 57 mph due to track, size, and intensity uncertainty. The wind threat has remained nearly steady from the previous assessment.
Potential impacts include limited damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, along with unsecured lightweight objects being blown about. Additional impacts involve broken tree limbs, a few snapped or uprooted trees, blown-over fences and roadway signs, and scattered power and communications outages. Debris may render a few roads impassable, and hazardous driving conditions are expected on bridges and other elevated roadways.
While true storm surge is unlikely, significant coastal flooding and beach erosion are expected due to high tides near 7.5 feet, high surf, and increased onshore winds.
