The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a Flood Watch in effect from October 10 through early October 12 for portions of northwest Arizona, southeast California, and Nevada. Incoming tropical moisture is expected to bring widespread showers and thunderstorms capable of producing flash floods.
The National Weather Service issued the Flood Watch on October 10 at 3:38 AM PDT. The alert begins at 11:00 AM PDT (11:00 AM MST) on October 10 and continues until 5:00 AM PDT on October 12. Forecasts indicate that incoming tropical moisture will drive widespread shower and thunderstorm activity across the region, creating a risk of excessive rainfall.
In Nevada, the watch covers the Las Vegas Valley, Lincoln County, Northeast Clark County, Southern Clark County, Western Clark and Southern Nye County, Sheep Range, Spring Mountains-Red Rock Canyon, and the Nevada sides of Lake Mead and Lake Mohave.
In California, affected locations include the Cadiz Basin, Morongo Basin, Eastern Mojave Desert including the Mojave National Preserve, and the San Bernardino County-Upper Colorado River Valley. Arizona regions under the watch include the Hualapai Mountains, Lake Havasu and Fort Mohave, Northwest Deserts, Northwest Plateau, and the Arizona sides of Lake Mead and Lake Mohave.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall may lead to the flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone areas. Flooding could also impact poor drainage areas, urban locations, and low-water crossings.
