NWS Las Vegas Issues Red Flag Warning for Parts of Nevada
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a Red Flag Warning for several areas in southern Nevada, effective from 11:00 AM to midnight PDT on September 12 due to wind and low humidity.
The National Weather Service Las Vegas NV announced the warning at 4:27 AM PDT on September 12. The alert is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM PDT and remain in effect until midnight PDT tonight, concluding at 12:00 AM PDT on September 13.
The affected areas include Nevada Fire Weather Zones 460, 462, 463, 464, and 465. Specific regions covered by the warning are Esmeralda and Nye County Deserts/CNC Dispatch, Nye County Deserts/Las Vegas Dispatch, Sheep Range, Spring Mountains, and Clark and SW Lincoln County Deserts/Las Vegas Dispatch.
According to the weather service, south winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph. Relative humidity levels are projected to drop between 5 and 20 percent.
These weather conditions mean that any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended while the Red Flag Warning remains active.
