NWS Mount Holly Issues Flood Watch for Portions of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, has issued a Flood Watch in effect from Thursday afternoon through late Thursday night. Multiple rounds of thunderstorms could cause localized flash flooding across parts of New Jersey, southeast Pennsylvania, and northern Delaware.
The National Weather Service issued the Flood Watch on August 19 at 2:08 PM EDT. The alert takes effect on Thursday afternoon, August 20, and remains active until August 21 at 2:00 AM EDT.
Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected across the region starting Thursday afternoon and lasting through Thursday evening. Rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour are possible, with total rainfall amounts generally between 1 to 2 inches and localized totals reaching 3 to 5 inches.
The watch covers New Castle in northern Delaware; several New Jersey areas including Atlantic, Camden, Coastal Atlantic, Coastal Ocean, Cumberland, Eastern Monmouth, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Northwestern Burlington, Ocean, Salem, Somerset, Southeastern Burlington, and Western Monmouth; as well as Delaware, Eastern Chester, Eastern Montgomery, Lower Bucks, Philadelphia, Upper Bucks, Western Chester, and Western Montgomery in southeast Pennsylvania.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall may lead to the flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas. Streams and creeks could overflow their banks, and flooding is also possible in urban areas and locations with poor drainage.
