Special Marine Warning Issued for New Jersey and Delaware Coastal Waters

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, has issued a Special Marine Warning for coastal and outer waters from Little Egg Inlet, New Jersey, to Fenwick Island, Delaware, effective until 11:30 PM EDT on September 1.

At 10:05 PM EDT, radar and mesonet data indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts. The line extended from Buoy Ge to near Great Egg Reef to 12 nautical miles east of Atlantic City Reef, moving south at 25 knots.

Earlier in the evening, the storm system generated a 59-knot wind gust near Surf City on Long Beach Island at 9:20 PM EDT. Hazards associated with this storm line include waterspouts, small hail, and wind gusts exceeding 50 knots.

The National Weather Service warns that waterspouts can overturn vessels and generate locally hazardous seas. High winds also pose a risk of significant structural damage to boats, while suddenly higher waves could capsize small craft.

Impacted areas include Atlantic City, Brigantine, Sea Isle City, Wildwood, Great Egg Inlet, Deepwater Reef, Cape May Reef, Ocean City Reef, The Lump, 28-Mile Wreck, and surrounding offshore buoys.
