The National Weather Service in Ruskin issued the Special Marine Warning early Wednesday morning. At 12:49 AM EDT, radar indicated a strong thunderstorm located over the Courtney Campbell Causeway, moving south at 20 knots.
The hazard associated with this weather system includes wind gusts of 34 knots or greater. Boaters and individuals on the water can expect suddenly higher waves, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours.
Affected locations include Clearwater Beach, Gandy Bridge, Old Tampa Bay, Howard Frankland Bridge, Egmont Key, Cockroach Bay, Indian Rocks Beach, Sunshine Skyway Bridge, Saint Pete Beach, Dunedin, Courtney Campbell Causeway, Treasure Island Reef, Clearwater Pass, Pass-A-Grille Channel, Saint Pete Beach Reef, Port Manatee Reef, Tampa Bay, Hillsborough Bay, Johns Pass, and Tarpon Springs.
