The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for coastal areas of San Diego County, including Oceanside, Carlsbad, Chula Vista, and San Diego.
The National Weather Service issued the Tropical Storm Watch on October 9 at 8:23 PM PDT. The event is slated to begin on October 9 at 8:23 PM PDT and end on October 10 at 4:30 AM PDT. While the latest local forecast calls for winds below tropical storm force, the potential exists for winds ranging from 39 to 57 mph due to uncertainties in track, size, and intensity.
Peak wind forecasts indicate speeds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts reaching up to 30 mph. Residents are advised to plan for hazardous wind of equivalent tropical storm force. Potential impacts include limited damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, along with unsecured lightweight objects being blown about.
Additional expected impacts involve broken large tree limbs, a few snapped or uprooted trees, and blown-over fences and roadway signs. Debris may cause a few roads to become impassable, particularly in urban or heavily wooded areas, and driving conditions may become hazardous on bridges and other elevated roadways. Scattered power and communications outages are also anticipated.
Although true storm surge is unlikely, significant coastal flooding and beach erosion are expected due to tides exceeding 7 feet, high surf, and increased onshore winds.
