The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for coastal areas of San Diego County, including Oceanside, Carlsbad, Chula Vista, and San Diego.
The National Weather Service issued the Tropical Storm Watch on October 10 at 2:26 AM PDT. The watch affects San Diego County Coastal Areas such as Oceanside, Carlsbad, Chula Vista, and San Diego.
While the latest local forecast indicates winds below tropical storm force with peak winds expected at 10 to 20 mph and gusts to 30 mph, there is potential for winds ranging from 39 to 57 mph due to track, size, and intensity uncertainty. Residents are advised to plan for hazardous wind of equivalent tropical storm force and complete preparations before the wind becomes hazardous.
Potential impacts include limited damage such as harm to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, along with unsecured lightweight objects being blown about. Many large tree limbs may break off, and a few trees could be snapped or uprooted. Additionally, scattered power and communications outages are possible.
While true storm surge is unlikely, significant coastal flooding and beach erosion are expected due to tides over 7 feet, high surf, and increased onshore winds. Hazardous driving conditions may occur on bridges and other elevated roadways, with a few roads potentially becoming impassable from debris.
