The National Weather Service in Phoenix, Arizona, has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the Phoenix metropolitan area from 10 AM Monday to 8 PM MST Friday.
The warning covers several locations across the Phoenix metropolitan area, including the Northwest Valley, Buckeye, Avondale, Deer Valley, Central Phoenix, Glendale, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, East Valley, South Mountain, Ahwatukee, and Queen Creek. Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach between 109 and 112 degrees, creating a major heat risk.
According to the National Weather Service, extreme heat events lead to a significant increase in heat-related illnesses. Prolonged exposure can cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion, which may progress to heat stroke if left unaddressed.
Public cooling shelters are accessible in parts of the impacted region. Residents in Maricopa County can dial 2-1-1 or visit maricopa.gov/heat to find free cooling centers, transportation assistance, and water.
