The National Weather Service in Jacksonville, Florida, has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for parts of northeast and north central Florida, as well as portions of southeast Georgia.
The warning was issued on August 18 at 12:50 AM EDT and remains in effect until August 18 at 8:00 PM EDT. Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with heat index values reaching up to 115.
Impacts from the event include a significant increase in heat-related illnesses due to the extreme heat and high humidity.
Affected areas include Suwannee, Baker, Inland Nassau, Union, Bradford, Gilchrist, Inland Flagler, Eastern Hamilton, Coastal Nassau, Coastal Duval, Eastern Clay, Eastern Alachua, Eastern Putnam, Coastal Flagler, Eastern Marion, Western Hamilton, Trout River, Western Clay, Northeast Coastal St. Johns, Western Alachua, and Western portions.
