This warning, issued on July 2 at 5:20 PM EDT, is in effect until July 4 at 8:00 PM EDT. Dangerously hot conditions are anticipated each afternoon, with heat index values expected to range between 110 and 113.
The NWS has outlined three specific periods for the Extreme Heat Warning. The first period extends until 8 PM EDT this evening. The second Extreme Heat Warning will be in effect from 10 AM to 8 PM EDT on Friday. A third Extreme Heat Warning is scheduled from 10 AM to 8 PM EDT on Saturday, July 4.
Affected areas include portions of the District of Columbia, central, north central, northeast, northern, and southern Maryland. The warning also covers central, northern, and northwest Virginia. During these extreme heat and high humidity events, a significant increase in heat-related illnesses is expected.
