The National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard, CA, has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for several areas within Los Angeles County. This watch, in effect from Tuesday morning through Wednesday evening, July 16, anticipates dangerously hot conditions.
An Extreme Heat Watch was issued on July 12 at 1:46 AM PDT by the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard, CA. This alert covers the Santa Clarita Valley, Los Angeles County Inland Coast including Downtown Los Angeles, Western San Fernando Valley, Eastern San Fernando Valley, Santa Susana Mountains, and Los Angeles County San Gabriel Valley. The watch is scheduled to remain in effect until July 16 at 8:00 PM PDT.
Prior to the Extreme Heat Watch, a Heat Advisory is active from July 14, 10 AM PDT, to July 15, 10 AM PDT. During this advisory period, temperatures are expected to range from 85 to 98 degrees. Following the advisory, the Extreme Heat Watch forecasts dangerously hot conditions with possible temperatures of 90 to 108 degrees, with the warmest temperatures expected in the valleys.
These conditions pose a high risk for dangerous heat illness for anyone, especially the very young, the very old, individuals without air conditioning, and those active outdoors.
Additional details indicate that monsoonal moisture will add to the discomfort level from the heat starting on Sunday and continuing through the week.
