The National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard CA has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for portions of southwest California. Dangerously hot conditions are possible from Tuesday morning, July 14, 2026, through Thursday evening, July 16, 2026.
The Extreme Heat Watch was issued on July 9 at 7:46 AM PDT and will remain in effect until July 16 at 8:00 PM PDT. This watch covers various areas within southwest California, including San Luis Obispo County Inland Central Coast, Santa Lucia Mountains, Santa Barbara County Inland Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast, Santa Ynez Mountains Eastern Range, Ventura County Beaches, Ventura County Inland Coast, Lake Casitas, Ojai Valley, and Central Ventu.
Forecasters anticipate dangerously hot conditions, with temperatures potentially reaching 95 to 112 degrees Fahrenheit away from the coast. Near coastal areas, temperatures could range from 85 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
There is a high risk for dangerous heat illness for all individuals, especially the very young, the very old, those without air conditioning, and those active outdoors. Additionally, monsoonal moisture is expected to increase the discomfort level associated with the heat.
