An Extreme Heat Watch has been issued for portions of southwest California, effective from Tuesday morning through Thursday evening. Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with temperatures potentially reaching 95 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit away from the coast.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard CA issued an Extreme Heat Watch on July 13 at 3:18 AM PDT. This watch is in effect from Tuesday morning, July 14, through Thursday evening, July 16, ending at 8:00 PM PDT.
Affected areas include San Luis Obispo County Inland Central Coast, Santa Lucia Mountains, Santa Barbara County Inland Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast, Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast, Santa Ynez Mountains Western Range, Santa Ynez Mountains Eastern Range, and Ventura County B. Temperatures of 95 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit are possible away from the coast, while areas near the coast could see temperatures between 85 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
There is a high risk for dangerous heat illness for anyone during this period. The very young, the very old, individuals without air conditioning, and those active outdoors are especially vulnerable to heat-related impacts.
Monsoonal moisture is expected to increase the potential for heat impacts during this extreme heat event.
