NWS Issues Extreme Heat Watch for Southern California

July 11, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 2 min read

The National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for a portion of southwest California. The watch is active from Tuesday morning, July 14, 2026, through Thursday evening, July 16, 2026.

The Extreme Heat Watch was issued on July 10 at 12:30 PM PDT and remains in effect until July 16 at 8:00 PM PDT. This watch covers areas including San Luis Obispo County Inland Central Coast, Santa Lucia Mountains, Santa Barbara County Inland Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast, Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast, Santa Ynez Mountains Western Range, Santa Ynez Mountains Eastern Range, and Ventura County.

Dangerously hot conditions are anticipated within these areas. Temperatures are projected to range from 95 to 112 degrees Fahrenheit away from the coast, and 85 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit near the coast. These conditions are expected to persist from Tuesday morning, July 14, through Thursday evening, July 16.

There is a high risk for dangerous heat illness for anyone in the affected region, especially for the very young, the very old, those without air conditioning, and those active outdoors. Monsoonal moisture is expected to contribute to increased discomfort levels from the heat.
